Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action ‘Pinocchio’ was one of the most anticipated streamings of 2022, and after many years of production, the remake of the 1940’s same-name animated movie was released on Disney+ on September 8, 2022, in the USA[1]. No doubt that “Pinocchio” is one of the most popular and nostalgic characters in film history, and due to its immense popularity, in the last several decades, many films based on it have been made, which have also been well received. But despite this, Disney’s ‘Pinocchio’ was a special film, which was understood by looking at the casting and budget of the film.

According to the latest report of the California Film Commission, Walt Disney’s live-action ‘Pinocchio’ was one of the most expensive films of 2022, and the production budget was $150 million, excluding prints and advertising costs. We think it was a good decision for Walt Disney Pictures to produce it only for its streaming platform, Disney+.

As per The New York Times, Walt Disney announced in 2017 that it would produce 3-4 films a year for Disney+, and ‘Pinocchio’ was also part of those announcements. ‘Pinocchio’ was a special film compared to other films, and it’s obvious the makers made this film on a maximum budget limit. According to some Hollywood sources, ‘Pinocchio’ was made with an overly limited budget.

‘Pinocchio’ was produced under the production banners of Walt Disney Pictures, Depth of Field Studios, and ImageMovers. The live-action remake film is directed by Robert Zemeckis, and apart from directing the film, Robert Zemeckis also co-wrote it with Chris Weitz. The film stars Tom Hanks, Luke Evans, Cynthia Erivo, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
