Marvel Studios kicks off Phase Five with much fanfare with a massive threequel of ‘Ant-Man’— ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, but maybe fans and critics didn’t like it much. That’s why the critical response to ‘Quantumania’ is looking disappointing, and it has also achieved the status of MCU’s worst film ever on RT with ‘Eternals’. But despite receiving such disappointing reviews, the pic has managed to do well at the box office due to Marvel’s shadow, but it is also certain that it will have an effect in the long run. And the result always comes in the end— that’s more important than reviews.
Is Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania Hit Or Flop?

According to reports, Walt Disney/ Marvel Studios’ threequel ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ arrived in the USA on February 17, 2023, in over 4300 theaters, collecting $46 million on its opening day (including $17.5 million from Thursday previews) and $104 million on its opening weekend at the domestic box office— A well-expected and also highest figure debut compared to originals, ‘Ant-Man’s $57 million and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’s $75 million. The Marvel pic has overall grossed $214.50 million domestically and $261.56 million overseas, for a worldwide total of $476.07 million[1].
The opening of ‘Ant-Man 3’ is well at the domestic box office, despite the bad reviews. But at the moment, too early to celebrate a successful opening because the bet of the makers is too expensive— the production budget for the threequel is est $200 million, and makers spent $100 million on P&A for a break-even point of $500+ million; shocking numbers but that’s true. The beginning is well, but the signs at the Lifetime run are not well as word of mouth is not in favor. As things stand, ‘Ant-Man 3’ is expected to gross less than $500 million, making it an unprofitable venture and a certain box office failure.

In short, ‘Ant-Man 3’ has been both a critical and commercial failure for Marvel and the MCU, and it has presented a significant challenge for the filmmakers involved in the project. Keeping the box office behind, the kind of reviews that have been there, it has become a matter of concern for the production from the point of view of the future of MCU because the production hasn’t found its ground since ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
Talking about the critical response, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ has received a 6.1/10* IMDb rating based on 185k+ votes, and on Rotten Tomatoes, it scored 46% based on 397 critics’ reviews.
