Many times some films have to struggle at the box office despite all things being in favor, and this is what happened with DreamWorks ‘Puss in Boots: The Lash Wish’—the spin-off to the ‘Shrek’ franchise and sequel to the ‘Puss in Boots 2011’—which has received mostly favorable reviews from the critics and audience and became totally binge-worthy animation film of 2022; not just a thing but really this is family cinema. Of all the positive reviews, the shocking but true is that the sequel has failed to open well at the ticket window, which is disappointing at the time. But now it does not matter.
Is Puss in Boots 2 Hit or Flop?

As per reports, DreamWorks Animation/Universal ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’— the direction by Joel Crawford with voices of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek—released in the USA on December 21, 2022, in over 4000 theaters, collecting $3.20 million on its opening day and $12.42 million on its opening weekend at the domestic box office, which is below expected and a slow start for the exceptional sequel on Christmas weekend. Overall, it has so far grossed $185.53 million domestically and $295.40 million overseas, for a global total of $480.93 million[1].
The production cost of ‘Puss in Boots 2’ is itself $90 million, and after immense marketing, it carries the break-even point of around $230 million, and even though these numbers may seem impossible at the time, it succeeded to completed it. ‘Puss in Boots 2’ didn’t open with terrific numbers, but the film has gained ground at the ticket window due to its excellent word of mouth, and it’s going to end its box office run with over-excellent numbers. Overall, ‘Puss in Boots 2‘ is a huge box office success, as well critical success.

Despite good reviews, the film has to struggle, it is not good enough, but another thing is that the film is clashing with the big ocean like ‘Avatar 2’, and it was bound to suffer. But now, all this does not matter because ‘Puss in Boots 2’ has become successful and is giving profit to the makers. And with it, once again, Universal Pictures has proved that they have no match and no comparison.
Talking about the critical response, ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ has received a 7.9/10* IMDb rating based on 138k+ votes, and on Rotten Tomatoes, it scored 95/100% based on 184 critical reviews.
