After the big failure of the year 2022— special mention of ‘Moonfall’ and ‘Massive Talent’— the industry hopes the year 2023 be a game changer for Lionsgate, but it does not seem possible to happen because the production’s big ‘Plane’ is expected to crash at the box office, which is one of the most expensive projects of the year for production. That’s not enough; according to reports, the film’s pre-projection is so bad that it could also become the biggest failure of the year, the same as ‘Moonfall’ in 2022, which is even more disappointing for the makers who have pinned all their hopes on it.
Lionsgate’s Plane Movie Box Office Prediction

Starring Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Yoson An, and director of Jean-François Richet, the action thriller ‘Plane’— scheduled to be released in the USA on January 13, 2023[1]— is expected to get a below-poor start with projections at $2-5 million domestically from over 3000 USA theatres due to its poor buzz and marketing. Despite the well-known star cast of Gerard Butler and Mike Colter, that’s a completely poor debut for the industry and production and going to be another flop on a medium budget.
Without the word-of-mouth impact, as an R-rated film, the lifetime projection numbers are also too disappointing, which is currently at a maximum of $20 million domestically and $25-35 million globally, while according to reports, the production cost of ‘Plane’ is itself $50 million, and it’s also one of the most expensive films of the year from Lionsgate. Break-even is a distant thing; ‘Plane’ might not be able to complete even half of the production budget, which means ‘Plane’ is going to be the first disaster of 2023 for industry and production.
Even though everything is in opposite circumstances right now, but still hope that word of mouth becomes in the favor of the film and that at least it manages to recover its production budget.
