At present, if any production in the industry comes out with the tag of being the most intelligent, it is Universal Pictures. Over the years, the production has achieved massive success in almost every genre with its low-cost formula. Whether it’s ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Super Mario Bros Movie’, or ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’, the makers have consistently made a good profit with films costing less than $100 million. And now, the production seems to be following the same formula as ‘Trolls Band Together,’ in which the makers have rejected overspending and kept the film’s budget low.
Trolls Band Together Budget Revealed

According to verified industry insiders, DreamWorks/Universal’s ‘Trolls Band Together’ is a medium-budget film, and the production budget for the film is $90 million, excluding prints and advertising costs. This amount is the same as the budget for the second film in the series, ‘Trolls World Tour,’ which was also made with a budget of $90-110 million[1], and it clearly shows that despite the series’ success, the makers are avoiding overspending. Not only have they applied this cost-effective approach to ‘Trolls,’ but in the last few years, Universal has reduced the costs of each of its successful film series while doubling its profits.
While Disney is increasing its budget even further or facing losses, Universal’s ability to work with lower costs and generate more revenue demonstrates its astuteness. It not only reflects Universal’s perspective but also the industry’s viewpoint, indicating that viewers desire high-quality content regardless of its cost or luxuries. Universal has recently produced many outstanding films aimed at family audiences. Other productions can undoubtedly learn from Universal.

Setting aside all of these considerations, when we discuss ‘Trolls Band Together,’ it’s a part of a successful and popular franchise, yet it doesn’t seem to be yielding significant returns for the makers at the moment. Perhaps this efficiency is one of the reasons the cost has been kept low. One more important thing to note is that Universal recently released films with a very poor pre-projection, but they performed exceptionally well in the final tally. That’s what we can also expect from ‘Trolls Band Together.’
‘Trolls Band Together’ was produced by Gina Shay under the production banners of DreamWorks Animation and is set to be distributed by Universal Pictures. This production collaboration has been highly successful in recent years, so hopefully, it will continue this streak after the faliure of ‘Ruby Gilman, Teenage Kraken.’ According to reports, ‘Trolls Band Together’ will make its streaming debut on Peacock after its theatrical release.
